Mephibosheth: Dining at the King's Table

Ministry's Purpose

  • To reach out with the good news of God's love to the physically or intellectually challenged

  • To express that love by providing financial and medical supplies (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.)

  • To demonstrate God's love to these persons who may seem overlooked by some people.

Partners

We have a wonderful opportunity for you to become a partner with us with this ministry: Mephibosheth: Dining at the King's Table. In the Book of II Samuel, the Bible tells the story of Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth who became physically impaired as a child due to an accident. In later years, King David invited him to dine regularly at the King's Table.

This ministry will seek to sponsor special-needs children and adults in Mexico and their caretakers to attend camp once a year, their own way of "Dining at the King's Table". Churches will also be taught and encouraged to minister to these individuals. In the past there has been very little focus on giving these very special people the help that they so desperately need.

Mephibosheth: His Story

King David

When Mephibosheth was only five years old both his grandfather, King Saul and his father Jonathan were killed in battle. When Mephibosheth's nurse heard the tragic news she knew he was in danger and picked him up and fled. She fell down and the child's feet were so injured that he was unable to walk for the remainder of his life.

For many years he was kept hidden in a distant place away from King David's palace in fear that David might try to kill anyone in Saul's family. Such evil was common in those times, when one king took power away from another king's family.

But when David became King after Saul's death, he acted on a promise he had made to Jonathan and Saul that he would not destroy their descendants when the dynasty changed. David sent for Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son. When he was brought into David's presence, he fell down on his face before the king because he was very afraid. David told him not to fear. "And David said to him, Fear not for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father, and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually." (II Samuel 9:7)

David had compassion on Mephibosheth and confirmed him as the rightful owner of Saul's lands. Moreover, David conferred on him the position reserved for his own sons. Mephibosheth was invited to eat at the king's table and was officially adopted into David's family. So Mephibosheth, was allowed to live in David's palace, among the highest in the land for the remainder of his life.
